Looking for ideas for things to do in Singapore over the upcoming Chinese New Year weekend. As many of you know Singapore and other Asian countries will be celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year on Sunday January 29th. This means that both January 30th and 31st (Monday and Tuesday) are public holidays in Singapore.

Most airlines are pretty booked for promotional prices for flights out of Singapore for that weekend so unless you've already booked your ticket it means you're probably stuck in Singapore.

Which is not really that bad as this year Chinese New Year or CNY comes pretty early and a lot of people may not be going away since they may have just come back from a long Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Now's the time to be booking your Valentine's Dinners and trips abroad. FYI Tiger Airways at www.tigerairways.com is having a 30% to 70% off their ticket prices now! But since the bulk of the cost of budget airline travel is not in the ticket itself but in the airport taxes. You can still expect to pay about S$300 round trip for 2 people to Phuket or Krabi.

Here's a run down of things to keep you occupied over the Chinese New Year holidays.

Tuesday, January 24th Backstreet Boys - while we can't say we're a big fan of the current Backstreet Boys as they really look a bit too old. However, since Singapore doesn't get enough live acts coming to town you can check out their "Never Gone Tour" on January 24th at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, 2 Stadium walk 6344-2660 Tickets are priced at S$70-S$160 available from www.sistic.com

Plan ahead if you want to check Oasis who are going to be live in concert on February 23rd Tickets are priced at S$68 to S$160 available from Sistic.

For the Star Wars fans you can still catch The Art of Star Wars Exhibition which is shown through April 3, 2006 at the Singapore Science Discovery Centre S$18 for adults Tel 6425-2500

Memoirs of a Geisha just opened in Singapore on January 19th and tickets were sold out for most major cinemas days before this past weekend's shows. Fans of Gong Li, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi and Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai) will not be dissappointed at this sordid introduction in the life of young women who because of economic circumstances are forced into the life of a Geisha. The movie is a chilling and attention grabbing 2.5 hour movie. Most revealing was the sale of the "mezuage" (hymen, virginity) of young "maikos" (apprentice geishas". Catch this movie on one of the many nights you're going to be off for CNY!
